There was certainly something in the water at Ashgrove in 2021.
The Old Boys congratulate Matt Magnussen (2021) who was selected as part of the Australian Junior Dolphin Swim Team and competed at the 2022 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu (24th – 27th August). Matt made the A finals in both the 100m and 200m Backstroke and placed 5th in both.
But that was not enough. Matt was then selected as Co-Captain of the Australian Youth Lifesaving Team for the 2022 World Lifesaving Championships in Riccione, Italy from 27th September – 2nd October. With an Ashgrove man at the helm, the Australian Youth team powered to the World Title inspired by Matt who took a total of 9 medals including 3 Gold.
Matt joins Will Valentine as now the second member of the 2021 cohort (Junior Water Polo) to captain his country.
