Old Boys, there is just something very, very special about being an Ashgrovian.

But just one of us at any given time can possess the great honour of being the very Oldest of all our Old Boys. The Grandfather of Ashgrove.

For some years now, that great privilege has rested with an equally great man – Sydney Raymond (Ray) Cottrell (1946).

Ray attended many, many Old Boy functions over the years, often alongside his lifelong friend, Judge Kev Rowe (1946). Yet another Ashgrove characteristic – genuine friendships for life.

Today, Ray will return home for the final time when his funeral, fittingly, will be held in the College Chapel.

The entire Ashgrove community sends our sincere condolences to Ray’s beloved wife, Beryl and to Christine and Paul, Greg and Sue, and the extended Cottrell family.

May our Mother Mary and St Marcellin Champagnat welcome our wonderful Old Boy home.
