All Old Boys extend our congratulations to OB Matt Higgins (1977) who has been deservedly recognised in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List. Matt was awarded the Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to Queensland with international impact in the fields of surveying, geodesy and spatial sciences.
A member of that superbly talented 1977 cohort and proud Old Boy, Matt is internationally recognised as an expert in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) including the USA’s Global Positioning System (GPS). In May 2013, Matt was appointed by the NASA Administrator to the Space-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Advisory Board which is a US Presidential Committee that advises US Government on issues about PNT, including GPS.
From 2011 to 2017, Matt was an Adjunct Professor at the Queensland University of Technology.
In 2022, he became an Assistant Director, Space Technology in the Australian Space Agency’s Office of the CTO as a subject matter expert on PNT.
